Your roof does not have to face north
North is best. East and west are fine. Here is how much you lose, and why it often does not matter.

A north-facing roof at 25 degrees is the textbook answer in the Southern Hemisphere. East or west costs you 12 to 18 per cent of annual yield. That sounds like a lot until you realise a west-facing array produces more in the late afternoon, which is exactly when the tariff and the household load both peak.
We regularly split arrays east and west deliberately. The yield curve is flatter and matches how people actually live.
